Plans to mount its 2021 annual conference in Denver, Colorado have fallen victim to COVID considerations, as the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) has decided to give its major event an online format.

Denver downed as AAA opts for virtual conference in 2021

The dates—April 14 to 17, 2021—are still good for your diary, but don't book travel, hotels, or buy a new toothbrush holder; the AAA has looked ahead at the possibilities and opted to programme a "strong fully digital event". This year, the 2020 AAA annual conference planned for New Orleans was the first major hearing health gathering to be cancelled.

Deciding against risking a 2021 physical gathering followed "countless conversations and considerations with the city of Denver, Denver convention center, and hotels, discussions with members and committee volunteers," said AAA President-elect Angela Shoup, who qualified the online choice as "the most responsible path forward to maintain optimal conditions for our attendees, presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, corporate partners, communities, and patients."

The AAA 2021 program committee is now engaged in transferring the programme of educational presentations and the annual industry HearTECH Expo to the digital framework. A "robust virtual exhibit hall" is envisaged for the latter.

Abstracts

Abstract submission has been closed but will shortly be reopened for the virtual conference. Anyone who submitted abstracts for the in-person event will be contacted directly by the AAA to discuss new options for presentation. Stand by for new AAA Conference info on the Academy's own website. Enjoy the President-elect's conference message here.
