The ISHAA celebrates 30 years

The Irish Minister for Social Protection Mr Leo Varadkar T.D. attended thetwo-day conference of the Irish Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (ISHAA) which washeld at the Carlton Dublin Airport Hotelon Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of May.
Minister Varadkar gave details of theextension to the self-employed of theTreatments Benefi t Grant for hearingaid provision to private clients. Thegrant is currently 500 euro for monauralor 1000 euro for bilateral fi ttings andis available to those that satisfy therequired amount of contributions intothe scheme at four year intervals.
ISHAA President Dr. Sandra Cummingsaddressed the audience stressing theneed for ongoing education and improvement of standards in hearing aid audiology. Shethanked the Minister for attending and welcomed him to offi cially open the two-dayconference. During the event, Past President and founding member Jim Sharkey gavea brief history of ISHAA to commemorate 30 years from the humble beginnings with8 hearing aid practitioners in 1987 to the current day where over 160 are involved. Anexhibition of the latest in hearing aid technology was visited by over 100 hearing aidaudiologists over the two days and presentations were made to those manufacturersthat had been voted for in various categories. The AGM of the Society was held onSaturday 6th May.
