Specsavers founder says his CBE British honour is a tribute to the group's 45,000 employees

Along with his wife, Dame Mary Perkins, Specsavers' founder Doug formed the famous optometry and hearing health group in 1984. It remains very much a family business, with son John Perkins as CEO and four of the elder Perkins' seven grandchildren much involved. Their grandfather is proud to be on King Charles' birthday honours list.

Co-founder and Chair of Specsavers, Doug Perkins, has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire  (CBE) by His Majesty King Charles in this year’s birthday honours list. The honour is given for Mr. Perkins' services to business and trade. "I can’t tell you how honoured I feel to receive this award for services to business as I have dedicated my entire career to helping people to see and hear more clearly," said Perkins, who was born in Llanelli, Wales in 1943, the son of a police sergeant and a farmer’s daughter.
