BAA warns that Government-tasked review of paediatric audiology services must seek long-term solutions, not "blame"

An independent review is to consider the response of NHS England to much publicised service failures in children’s hearing services in the UK. The review will be conducted swiftly, says the Government, with an initial report to be delivered within 3 months of the launch date of the review, "ensuring lessons learned can be acted upon promptly".

The British Academy of Audiology has given a bristly welcome to Secretary of State Wes Streeting's announcement that he has commissioned an independent review of UK children's hearing services. Naming as review chair Dr. Camilla Kingdon, a consultant neonatologist at the Evelina London Children's Hospital for over 20 years, Streeting underlined notorious recent paediatric audiology failures as typical of "a culture that buried problems rather than confronting them", pointing out his determination that such failures would not be repeated on his watch.
