Danish collaboration achieves the opening of new research centre

GN ReSound, Oticon and Widex in cooperation with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) have opened the research centre ‘Centre for Acoustic-Mechanical Micro Systems’ (CAMM). One of CAMM’s key focus areas is to study how the acoustic signal influences a mechanical construction and vice versa. This can lead to designing smaller hearing aids with an improved sound experience for hearing aid users.

Freezing temperatures, snow and ice are still plaguing much of the United States, from the Midwest to New England, and even all the way to northern Texas. Temperatures as much as 40 degrees Fahrenheit below average are still forecast for many States. We all know how exposed our ears can feel in extremely cold weather. And of course people with hearing aids have to take extra precautions to protect their devices from the onslaught of the elements.

Enrolment open for postgraduate audiology course

The University of Argentinian Social Museum (Umsa) has announced that enrolment is now open for its postgraduate course in Audiology, which is aimed at professionals in the sector who wish to complement their studies. The course objective is to use updated epistemological knowledge in this area to train specialists and give them aptitudes and attitudes in order to carry out integrated management of hearing problems.

Germany: improved care for people with hearing impairment?

By means of a constitutive decision made in July 2013, the German National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband), has effectively doubled standard rates for the care of people with hearing loss, and significantly increased performance requirements for hearing aids.

Spanish families of the deaf call for universal reimbursement of hearing aid costs

The Spanish Federation of Associations of Parents and Friends of the Deaf (FIAPAS) has called on health authorities to take advantage of a coming tax overhaul and review of laws regulating benefits for prosthetics users in order to extend reimbursements on hearing aid costs to all ages.

First class of Spanish experts to earn certificates for treating tinnitus

A total of 31 enrolled Spanish audiology professionals made up the first class from the country to qualify in obtaining GN Hearing Care certificates in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. On completing this training programme in Madrid, their achievements increased when the GN Group announced that, on top of the diploma of accreditation, they would "distinguish professionals' centres with promotional material".
