The popular high-street business told Audio Infos it must meet “unprecedented demand” from customers and growing referrals from the NHS. “Following the lockdowns of 2020 and early 2021, Specsavers saw record levels of demand for audiology services last year, as it helped to keep hundreds of thousands of people connected with friends and family across the UK and Ireland,” a company source underlined.

In addition to 100+ audiologists and HADs, who will be employed or taken on as local directors, Specsavers also plans an expansion of new hearing care assistant and audiology clinical support roles as the new hubs get up and running.

2021 – a key year

Specsavers first launched its hearing care service in 2002. In 2021, demand was such that the firm opened 16 new audiology centres, taking its number of businesses to 250 in the UK and Ireland. It offers audiology services across its network of 900 stores.

Investment in tech

Although it has not specified how, Specsavers says it will continue to invest in technology, bringing exciting new hearing aids and hearing products and services. It has traditionally provided an own-brand range, Advance, devices manufactured by industry leaders such as WS Audiology and Sonova, and Specsavers says it will continue to develop Advance.

“Demand for our audiology services hit an all-time high in 2021, which shows no signs of slowing in 2022, and we’re planning our biggest year of growth in audiology in our history, so we need more talented hearing care professionals to join us on our mission to change lives through better hearing,” said Carina Hummel, Specsavers’ General Manager for audiology.

“When we started our audiology services 20 years ago, our aim was to provide access to expert audiology services at great value. Our mission has always been to make hearing services accessible for all, and this is delivered by dedicated, highly skilled clinicians who make a huge difference to people’s lives through better hearing,” continued Hummel.

“Our audiologists’ priority is clinical excellence, as they give the gift of hearing to private and NHS patients, backed by unrivalled training, development and career progression.”
