GN Otometics is growing again with the acquisition of Audio Electronics, Inc., a Texas-based distributor of audiometric and vestibular equipment. David Dorris, Ph.D., who most recently was president of Audio Electronics, will remain at the helm of the organization, as general manager, and will report to Dan McNulty, general manager of GN Otometrics.

Decline in hearing aid sales

The quarterly statistics from the British Hearing Aid Manufacturers’ Association show an unexpectedly sharp decline in sales to both private hearing aid dispensers and NHS hospital departments. How to widen the Brazilian hearing aid market?

The Secretary General of the European Hearing Industry Manufacturers Association (EHIMA), Søren Hougaard, visited Brazil in May in order to seal a partnership with the ABIMED, the domestic association for health devices and equipments importers. The main goal of the cooperation is to take advantage of the EHIMA’s know-how in terms of research. The Brazilian companies have the will do develop a study similar to EuroTrak. Under EHIMA’s responsibility, EuroTrak provides a wide range of data about European hearing care markets and the user’s habits and satisfaction.

Bernafon sets up its own Spanish subsidiary

The Swiss producer Bernafon - a company belonging to the William Demant Group - has announced the creation of its own subsidiary sales firm, Bernafon Ibérica, through which it aims to "reach Spain directly". Sources at the firm have confirmed that it has "more than 65 years of experience in the marketplace, with its own firms in 15 countries and presence in more than 80 through independent distributors."
