Educational technology with sign language

Educational software adapted for children with hearing disabilities or specially developed for their needs is now reaching the classrooms of 19 schools in Chile as part of a pilot scheme set up under the ministry of education's Enlaces (Links) programme.The 'TIC diversity' project means a notebook, projector, video camera, interactive blackboard, and software are to be delivered so children can work with content in language, maths, text creation, and vocabulary widening.

On a recent visit to India, Starkey Hearing Foundation founders Bill and Tani Austin were blessed by the Dalai Lama in recognition for their philanthropic works around the world. The trip was the Foundation’s second mission to India in 2012 where their team fitted patients with hearing aids in a total of six cities – Hubli, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bangalore and Mundgod. In Lucknow with an expanded mission team, Starkey Hearing Foundation set a new record for patients fit in one day, with a total of 1,337 receiving the gift of hearing, many hearing for the first time.

Parents favor hearing screening

A University of Michigan poll suggests that parents are strongly in favor of required hearing screenings for kids from birth to age 17.

The University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health asked a nationwide sample of parents of children 0-17 years old about whether they would support requirements for hearing screening.
