The current issue of Audio Infos UK includes a joint report from the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association, the European Association of Hearing Aid Professionals and the European Federation of Heard of Hearing People.
Titled, ‘Getting our numbers right on hearing loss’, the report is intended to provide a Europe wide strategy to ensure professionals, end-user groups and other interested parties have numbers that are evidenced and can be relied upon. In discussing hearing statistics, the report questions whether people actually wait seven years between realising they have a hearing loss and getting some help. Surveys indicate they do not wait so long. Whilst they talk a lot about the figures, the report does state that, “Customer satisfaction, active use and impact on overall quality of life are the true goals that matter.”
Also included in this issue is an update on our European Audiologist of the Year, Duncan Collet-Fenson and the team at Aston Hearing Services, which now includes the patient who nominated him for the award. Nikki Magrath is helping the team with events, patient liaison and helping to raise awareness of Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL).
