The Australian implant manufacturer, Cochlear Limited, has announced that Chris Smith will take the role of Chief Executive Officer/President later this year. Mr Smith, who has more than 10 years of executive experience at Cochlear, will replace the current CEO, Chris Roberts on 1st September.

The Swiss company Sonova, which markets the hearing aid brands Phonak, Unitron and Hansaton, and owns the cochlear implant company Advanced Bionics, recently reported solid results for the year 2014/2015.

Unitron has appointed Mike Dittmann as the Company’s new President of Unitron US. Dittmann has spent the past 17 years in the hearing instrument industry in leadership positions within Widex’s global head office in Denmark.

The GAES hearing centre chain opened its practice number 600 in Madrid on March 5. The centre joins the second biggest network in the world. Now present in half-a-dozen countries, the firm chose the occasion to launch a "new concept" defined by its leaders as "the integration of medical treatment and hearing care consultation."

The US retail giant Costco, which has more than 400 auditory centres throughout its network of 600 warehouses and has enjoyed a 26% annual growth in the sale of hearing aids, has begun its implantation in Spain by opening two large establishments, one in Seville, Andalucía, and the other in Getafe, near Madrid, which will also serve as the headquarters for the group in Spain.
