Cochlear announces retirement of Prof Edward Byrne, AC

Cochlear Limited today announces that non-executive director Prof Edward Byrne, AC has advised his intention to retire from the Company’s board at the end of the next Annual General Meeting which will be held on 16th October 2018.

Prof Byrne joined the Cochlear Limited Board on 1st July 2002 and has served as the Chairman of the Company’s Medical Science Committee, as well as on the Nomination and Technology & Innovation Committees.

Cochlear Chairman, Mr Rick Holliday -Smith said: “Ed has provided invaluable counsel in his 16 years of service to Cochlear’s board. His extensive experience in medicine and clinical neurology and research, as well as his dedication to Cochlear, have contributed greatly to Cochlear’s strategic direction and success over many years.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to sincerely thank Ed for his service and contribution to Cochlear and wish him well for the future.“The Board had anticipated Ed’s retirement and appointed Prof Bruce Robinson, AM in December 2016 to allow for an orderly transition. Prof Robinson took over from Prof Byrne as Chairman of the Medical Science Committee in December 2017.

The Board will continue to be well served in the areas of research, healthcare and medicine, and tertiary education by Prof Robinson.”
