Top management shake-up at Starkey Hearing Technologies

Starkey, the number one American hearing aids manufacturer, has announced, announced the termination of its Executive President Jerry Ruzicka along with three other senior executives: Keith Guggenberger, Operations Vice President, Scott Nelson, Chief Financial Officer, and Larry Miller, Vice President of Human Resources.

The company’s employees received an email on Wednesday September 9 informing them of the immediate termination of the four managers. The email gave no explanations, according to an employee interviewed by the press.

Starkey founder and CEO, William F. Austin, who created the company back in 1967 issued a brief statement saying “We can’t comment due to an ongoing investigation. There are no issues that affect our company and it’s business as usual.”

Jerry Ruzicka was the longest serving of the presidents among the “Big Six”, the major players in the hearing aids sector. He has worked in the hearing aid industry for nearly 40 years. After joining the company in 1977, he made his way up the corporate ladder to be nominated president in 1998. While he occupied this position, the company experienced spectacular growth. In 2010, Ruzicka was named Entrepreneur of the Year for the Upper Midwest region by the financial audit group Ernst & Young. This award is granted to entrepreneurs for outstanding work in innovation and financial performance, and personal commitment within their company.

Starkey is the fifth largest hearing aid manufacturer in the world and employs more than 3,600 people in 18 countries.
