International CI Conference in Munich: The cochlear implant is coming of age

After a 27-year hiatus, an event has once again been held in Germany, in the Bavarian capital Munich, last June. In the Kultur- und Bildungszentrum Gasteig (Centre of Culture and Education Gasteig) in Munich, Professor Joachim Müller, Congress Chair, welcomed more than 2,600 medical professionals and technicians from 97 countries to the ‘13th International Conference on Cochlear Implants and other implantable auditory technology.’

Hearing Aid Lifestyle Show 2014 in Tokyo

June 6, 2014 was Hearing Aid Day in Japan and the Japan Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (JHIMA) held “Hearing Aid Lifestyle Forum 2014” in Tokyo, as part of the event. During the Forum, the Hearing Aid Lifestyle Show also took place and included an awards ceremony. Six hearing aid users were selected in each award, such as the Athlete Award or Active Senior Award from 30-somethings to 80-somethings.

Upcoming event: Annual HLAA Convention in Austin, Texas

The 2014 Annual Convention of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is to take place from June 26 to 29 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel, Austin, Texas. The HLAA is the largest organization representing people with hearing loss in the United States.

11th International Tinnitus Seminar: research and clinical excellence awards presented

The International Tinnitus Seminar takes place every three to four years and this year was back in Germany for the first time in more than 20 years. The event was hosted at the Campus Charité Mitte in Berlin last May.

8th Tinnitus Research Initiative International Conference: “Basic knowledge is vital for progress in treatment”

“What struck me most, just like in Valencia and Bruges during the last venues, was the heterogeneity of the approaches which were presented”, says Dr. Berthold Langguth. He is head of the Tinnitus Center of Regensburg University and one of the speakers at the 8th Tinnitus Research Initiative International Conference, which took place last March in Auckland, New Zealand.

AudiologyNOW! 2014: A tour of the hearing instrument manufacturers

Whilst still the largest gathering of hearing care professionals and industry representatives, AudiologyNOW! 2014 had fewer exhibitors than previous years, and those that were exhibiting had smaller booths. Connectivity was this year’s buzz; some manufacturers were talking about ‘Made for iPhone’ (MFi), others were interested in ‘made for all phones’! There were several different approaches on display.
