This issue* offers an interview with the founder of the FORL, Professor Ricardo Ferreira Bento, and with its Chairman, Doctor Richard Voegels, who is also the Chairman of Congress. Two other articles are dedicated to the FORL. The first shows how the FORL’s Audiology Centre is applying technology to develop a semi-remote patient management system for implanted patients. The second article retraces the history of how the Foundation developed a Temporal Bone Surgery Simulator, the Otobone, the third version of which will be unveiled during the congress.

Including articles by renowned specialists

Doctor Osmar Mesquita de Sousa Neto, expert in auditory neuropathies, offers an overview of the different steps in establishing the diagnosis of the main cases of this pathology.

The research group coordinated by Professor Julio A. Cordioli, Head of the Laboratory of Vibration and Acoustics of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, then presents the progress the group has achieved with piezoelectric sensors for future generations of fully implantable hearing aids (cochlear implants, etc.).
